Introduction by Michael van Hoogenhuyze, art historian and lecturer
Bradwolff Projects presents interdisciplinary artist Hee-Seung Choi’s first solo exhibition in Amsterdam, Feeling of Time, a series of new works specifically created for its space. Working with diverse media including video, performance, sound and installation, Choi responds to familiar signs, routines and arrangements found in everyday life, often combining literary references.
For Choi, time hinges on images and feelings, unfolded here in a narrative featuring two films and a sculpture among other elements. She has adopted the triptych form that is apparent in the architecture of Bradwolff Projects – a dome with symmetrical wings – as a framework to counterbalance the absence of stability in her feeling of time.
Hee-Seung Choi (Korean American, 1976) lives and works in Amsterdam. Initially trained as a classical musician, she continued her study at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (NL) after receiving her master’s degree in music composition from Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University (US). Her work has been shown internationally, including venues such as De Balie, P/////AKT gallery, De Nederlandsche Bank, Korzo Theater (NL), La Fleche D’or (FR) and International Thermaikos Film Festival (GR). She has been a resident artist at Steim (NL) and Kunsthuis SYB (NL); and finalist for Sybren Hellinga Kunstprijs and Jan Hanlo Film Essay Prijs.
